Legislation to combat violence

The Legal Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Deputies has given a favourable report to the legislative proposal to amend some normative acts to combat violence, which brings an additional element for the protection of victims in Romania.
This means that dropping the criminal complaint against the aggressor only becomes valid if the prosecutor in the case agrees to withdraw it.
Gabriel Andronache, PNL MEP: We often know that behind this withdrawal are other violent actions to induce the victim to proceed with the withdrawal. And so, we have set up a mechanism whereby this complaint becomes valid, viable only to the extent that the prosecutor agrees to this withdrawal, precisely in order to analyse the situation that led to the withdrawal of the complaint. It is a real situation of appeasement or we are talking about pressure behind the action to withdraw the complaint.
The bill will now go to the Chamber of Deputies for debate and vote.
