Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni has been in Bucharest, on Thursday, on official visit, and discussed with both Romanian Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă and the Romanian President Klaus Iohannis about cooperation between Romania and Italy.
Romanian-Italian relationship is very good in many areas, President Iohannis said, recalling in this context the political relations, trade and the almost identical positions in terms of European policies. Another positive point noted by the Head of State is that both the Romanian community in Italy and the Italian community in Romania are fully integrated.
Klaus Iohannis: Italians are very welcome and very well integrated in Romania, a community with a lot of business people. Also the Romanian community in Italy (1.3 million) is very well integrated, very well accepted.
RRA Reporter: Managing migration must be one of EU's top priorities, Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni stressed.
Paolo Gentiloni: We share the fact that, also due to the role of President Iohannis and your Government, the semester when Romania will hold the Presidency of the European Council in 2019 will make a contribution for a common multi-annual EU economic framework. It cannot be dominated by selfish interests that ultimately lead to the impossibility of reaching a positive definition. We have to insist on going on the EU road. Within this road, there is also a common involvement on migration themes and I think Italy has done its job. It has made an important effort, but this (migration, n.a.) has to be one of the great priorities of the Union, to gradually manage this phenomenon.
