The International Monetary Fund delegation is wrapping up its visit to Bucharest this week. It was not an assessment mission, but a dialogue between IMF specialists and representatives of the main institutions in charge of Romania's monetary and fiscal policies.
On Friday, at the Government meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized the Executive's commitment to keep within the budget deficit of 7% of GDP and to maintain the downward trend of this indicator in the coming years, in line with the fiscal plan agreed with the European Commission representatives.
Marcel Ciolacu pointed out the measures to reduce personnel expenditure, the restructuring of the budgetary apparatus and administrative-territorial reorganization - priorities for the next period.
The IMF published the latest forecasts on the evolution of the Romanian economy last fall, when it estimated a deficit for the end of 2025 at the same level as the one set by the Government: 7%.
The IMF estimates are more optimistic, however, in terms of economic growth - 3.3 percent, compared with only 2.5 percent as calculated by the authorities in Bucharest - and inflation, calculated at 3.6 percent, below the 4.4 percent target set by the government.
