Institute for the Investigation of Communist Crimes and the Memory of the Romanian Exile (IICCMER) was informed ex officio about the way former Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Meleșcanu acted as representative of the Romanian delegation at the meetings in Vienna from December 19-20, 1989.
According to diplomatic cables, Teodor Meleșcanu would have participated, as an official, to disinformation and diversion exercised by the totalitarian communist regime at that time in Romania – states representatives of the institute.
Sources mention Meleșcanu would have misled diplomatic representatives on the crimes and abuses committed in Timișoara in 1989, placing the crimes committed by the communists in the category of rumors spreaded for hostile purposes and unconfirmed press news.
Investigations are to be made in the archives and among witnesses, followed by IICCMER’s specific activities.
Should investigators find violations of the law, institute is authorized to notify the competent authorities, Agerpres says.
