GAUDEAMUS International Book Fair, organized by Radio Romania, opens today at the Romexpo Central Pavilion in Bucharest.
This year’s guest of honor is not a country, as usual, but the European Union, through the Representation of the European Commission in Romania. This year’s edition is special, as it marks 60 years since the signing of the Roma Treaty, 30 years since the launch of the Erasmus program and also 10 years since Romania joined the European Union. Under the motto “unity in diversity”, the European Union encourages people to discover and explore the rich cultural heritage of the old continent.
Up to 800 events are scheduled for Sunday, and book lovers will be able to enjoy the offers of all the major publishers in the country - says Radio Romania's President Director - General, Georgică Severin.
"Over 300 Romanian and foreign publishing and printing houses, educational institutions, cultural centers and institutes attend this 24th edition. I asked: Is there any important publishing house that did not sign the contract? And the good news that my colleagues who organized GAUDEAMUS gave me was that all the significant Romanian publishers, without exception, participate in this edition of the fair", Severin said.
This year’s honorary president is the Romanian playwright and journalist Matei Vişniec.
GAUDEAMUS International Book Fair will close on Sunday, 26 November.
