Ceremonies commemorating the martyrdom committed on 9 September 1940 by Hungarian horthyist troops took place on Saturday in the village of Treznea, Sălaj County, Northwestern Romania.
In the Autumn of 1940, immediately after the entry into force of the Dictate of Vienna, which stipulated the annexation of North Transylvania to horthyst Hungary, Hungarian troops killed hundreds of Romanians from several villages in this part of the country, among which the most atrocious were the massacres at Treznea, where 86 people were killed.
The commemoration of the victims of the massacre committed by the horthyist troops in Treznea began with a military and religious ceremony, as well as the story recollection of those who escaped from the bullets. 86 locals died innocent.
Children, elderly around their 80s, newly born babies have been killed. Assassinations started on the morning of September 9th. The inhabitants of Treznea were suddenly hit by gun beds, stabbed to death with the bayonets. They started firing houses and shooting everyone they found inside -said Doctor in History Marin Pop, County Museum of History and Art Zalău.
Manifestations will continue next week in the village of Ip, where 77 years ago, the horthyist army killed 157 locals for the sole reason that they were Romanians.
