Chief of Romanian Defense attends NATO Military Committee Conference

A delegation of the Romanian General Defense Staff, headed by General Nicolae Ciucă, attends, on Tuesday and Wednesday, a NATO Military Committee Conference, NATO’s highest Military Authority, in Chiefs of Defense (CHODs) session at the NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. General Petr Pavel, Chairman of the Military Committee, will preside over the sessions.
Participants will discuss the challenges of the security environment on NATO’s southern flank and the Alliance's contribution to its stabilization, strategies to follow on the Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan, NATO’s role in providing assistance in the field of security sector reform in Iraq, Romanian Ministry of National Defense announced.
The Chiefs of Defense will discuss the challenging security environment on NATO’s southern flank and the Alliance’s contribution to its stabilization. The CHODs with their Resolute Support counterparts will review the Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan and discuss the wider region. The Chiefs of Defense also will discuss the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS and NATO’s role in Iraq during 2018. Meetings with partners Ukraine and Georgia will focus on the security situations on the ground, defense reform progress and the way ahead.
The Chiefs of Defense will also be informed and debate the proposed recommendations for the NATO Command Structure Adaptation as well as exchange views on Allied coherence, specific to military priorities.
