Accidents produced by cars with Bulgarian numbers are being more and more numerous and the compensation of damage, which seems to be very difficult, runs the risk to become a worry for the insurance companies.

Regarding the aggregate number of accidents occurred in Romania, including also those caused by cars registered abroad, the share of accidents with vehicles registered in Bulgaria increased by thirteen per cent which means ten times more than between 2005 and 2007 and according to the Romanian Motor Insurer’s Bureau Bulgarian insurance companies delay in paying the damages.

Bulgarian insurers explain that, in many cases, Romanians having registered their cars in Bulgaria preemptively conclude a purchase agreement or insurance policies in name of the Bulgarian either individual or legal person but taking into account that Romanians are those who sign the policy it becomes almost invalid.

On the motor insurance market, not only the number of contracts related to motor vehicles liability insurance (RCA) but also the number of subscriptions boosted in 2010, while the number of CASCO insurances declined.

According to the Insurance Supervisory Commission, the decline regarding the number of CASCO insurances was determined by the decrease of leasing activity which used to have a very important share in this field.

Regarding the motor vehicles liability insurance we must add that, in 2010, about 2.4 percent out of the aggregate number of claims for damage compensation has been rejected and now this number is over 5,300 – a twenty per cent more increase than in 2009.
