Chief of Romanian Defense Staff, General Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă, has welcomed, on Friday, 23 February, in Bucharest, Lt.Gen.Christopher Cavoli, Commander of U.S. Army Europe (USAREUR), at the Headquarters of the Romanian Defense Staff.
Talks focused on the activities to be carried out jointly in 2018 by the Romanian Army and the American Land Forces deployed in Europe, in Romania as well as in the training centers of USAREUR.
General Ciucă thanked Lieutenant General Cavoli for the support that USAREUR has given to the Romanian Armed Forces. "Cooperation between the United States Army in Europe and the Romanian Armed Forces has materialized over the recent years in many activities that have led to increased interoperability and trust between the two armies. The support of the United States for the continuation of the reform process, for Romania’s Euro-Atlantic integration efforts and for Romania’s promotion as a factor of stability and security in Southeastern Europe has been and remains essential. Relationship between USAREUR and the Romanian Land Forces must remain very close in order to contribute together to European and international security", General Ciucă said at the end of Gen.Cavioli’s visit to Bucharest, according to the Romanian Ministry of Defense (MApN).
"During my first visit to Romania, I have thanked General Nicolae Ciucă and his team for their leadership role in NATO and we have ensured of our commitment to continuing the close partnership between our countries. Being a key ally in the Black Sea region, Romania's demonstration actions, alongside the US Land Forces in Europe, enhance interoperability and directly support the provision of combat capability. Romania remains an unwavering ally and a good host for our soldiers. We look forward to continuing to develop the already very strong relationship", said General Cavoli.
Support provided by USAREUR to the Romanian Armed Forces is a substantial one, in Afghanistan's theater of operations, in pre-deployment training, in logistics and, last but not least, in the establishment of Multinational Division South East (HQ MND-SE), NATO Force Integration Unit Romania (NFIU ROU) and Multinational Brigade South East (HQ BDE-SE).
