RADOR - The Romanian Naval Forces made clarifications today regarding the navigation regime in the Black Sea waters, after the press wrote about the presence of two Russian military ships in the Exclusive Economic Zone of Romania, at 120 kilometers from the shore, near the natural gas extraction platforms Uranus and Ana.
"In accordance with the provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, both in the Adjacent Zone and in the Exclusive Economic Zone of Romania, all other States shall enjoy, under the conditions provided for in the relevant provisions of the Convention, including navigation, as well as other freedoms related to the use of the sea for lawful purposes", it is shown in the press release of the Naval Forces.
After the beginning of Russia's armed aggression in Ukraine, 11 Romanian military ships and two Puma Naval helicopters carry out daily, by rotation, research missions, at sea and at the mouth of the Danube, in a maritime space of about 30.000 km².
The aim is to ensure the security of maritime borders, in the area of the territorial sea of Romania, as well as the security of economic activities in the area of oil platforms and critical infrastructure in the Contiguous Zone and Exclusive Economic Zone of Romania in the Black Sea.
Romania's territorial waters extend up to 12 nautical miles (22.2 km) from the land line, and are followed by the Adjacent Zone, between 12 and 24 nautical miles, and the Exclusive Economic Zone, Radio Romania correspondent Sorin Cealera transmitted.
