At least three thousand dolphins have died in the Black Sea due to the war in Ukraine, said a Ukrainian biologist quoted by EFE and taken over by Agerpres.

"Unlike in previous years, dolphins are now dying from military activities in the Black Sea, from Russia's barbaric and senseless war", Ukrainian biologist Ivan Rusev wrote on Facebook.

He also mentioned that he still receives information about the death of dolphins in the coastal areas of Romania and Bulgaria, and the conclusions of the analyzes carried out on the basis of press articles on this subject from the countries bordering the Black Sea "are not encouraging".

If previously dolphins died because they were trapped in fishing nets, especially in the northeastern part of the Black Sea, now they are killed mainly by the activities of military vessels.

"Strong sonar and explosions disrupt the delicate animal guidance system and these blind dolphins end up starving to death, no longer being able to catch fish", said the Ukrainian researcher. In addition, due to the weakened body, dolphins are more susceptible to infectious diseases that also lead to death.
