Romanian Orthodox Church celebrates, on 27 October, St.Dimitrie the New, Protector of Bucharest and this year, the religious service at the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest was led by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, arrived in Romania on historic visit.
Their Beatitudes Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, Patriarch Daniel of Romania, Archbishop Anastasios of Tirana, Durres and all Albania, Metropolitan Rastislav of the Czech Lands and Slovakia were also present to concelebrate the Divine Liturgy, together with other hierarchs, delegates of the sister Orthodox Churches, and Romanian bishops, priests and deacons, according to RRA Reporter Remus Rădulescu.
The delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church headed by His Beatitude Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia, brought a fragment of the holy relics of Saint Seraphim of Sarov for the veneration of believers, which will be offered afterwards to the Russian Orthodox community in Bucharest hosted by St Nicholas – Tabacu Church.
Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Russia and Patriarch Daniel of Romania are expected to discuss, among other issues, about the Ukrainian Education Law - which the Russian Orthodox Church would like to combat jointly with the Romanian Orthodox Church, as the Head of Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relation declared to Radio Romania correspondent in Moscow, Alexandru Beleavski and about the conflict between two Orthodox Churches in the Republic of Moldova - one Church is loyal to Moscow while the other is linked to Romania's Orthodox Church.
On Saturday, 28 October, Patriarch Kirill will participate at the Te Deum officiated on the 10th anniversary of the enthronement of His Beatitude Daniel as Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, in the presence of hierarchs, clergy and faithful from Romania and abroad, and then at the solemn session of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church, will take place at the Patriarch Teoctist Aula Magna of the Patriarchate’s Palace.
This is the first visit of a Russian Patriarch in post-comunist Romania and the first visit of Patriarh Kirill in Romania, since his election in 2009.
