Romania is represented by 27 athletes at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, officially opened today at 13:00 (Romanian time), the whole delegation counting for 50 persons, the Chairman of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee (COSR) Mihai Covaliu said on Thursday.
Romanian athletes will compete in the following seven sport disciplines: alpine skiing - 2 athletes, cross-country skiing - 3 athletes, biathlon - 6 athletes, ski jumping - 1 athlete, bobsleigh – 7 athletes, luge - 5 athletes, skeleton - 2 athletes, speed-skating - 1.

Over 2,900 athletes from 92 countries, nations or delegates participate in the 23rd Winter Olympic Games (South Korea) scheduled from 9-25 February under the slogan „Passion.Connect”.
What's new in this year’s Winter Olympic Games
This year, there are several countries that participate for the first time – Ecuador, Eritrea, Kosovo, Malaysia, Nigeria and Singapore.
New contests: snowboard big air, speed skating mass start, curling mixed doubles and the Alpine team event.
PyeongChang Winter Olympics will be the first to award more than one hundred medals (102), and this edition will have the largest number of feminine and mixed events in the history of the competition.
Noteworthy, during the opening ceremony, North Korea and South Korea's delegation will scroll under the same flag, which is an important step in relieving the extremely cold relations between the two countries.
