RADIO ROMANIA NEWS - The Minister of Health estimates that, in about three weeks, the daily reports on new cases of COVID-19 will no longer be in the thousands, and when epidemiological conditions allow the lifting of certain restrictions, the first will be the cancellation of the obligation to wear a protective mask in open spaces.
Alexandru Rafila says he hopes that the Easter holidays will be without restrictions in Romania.
For now, however, the Omicron strain of coronavirus is dominant and more scientific data is expected regarding the new subvariant called by specialists BA.2, more transmissible and which has spread in several countries, also being identified in Romania.
Alexandru Rafila: “There are also a few cases in Romania. In the last statistic there were 13 cases of variant BA.2. We are not thinking of a 6th wave at this time. Currently it is all about the immunity obtained at population level, either by going through the disease, by vaccination, or both. There is a study that reflects the fact that it could produce more serious forms, but we expect a relevant number of cases that can prove or disprove this. When you talk about a limited number of cases and even a limited geographical spread, you can't draw any global conclusions."
