Via Transilvanica, "the road that unites", won the Public Choice Award at the European Heritage Awards 2023 gala, which took place on Thursday evening, September 28, in Venice, according to the announcement made on Friday on the social media page of the Tasuleasa Social Association, reports Agerpres.
The project launched five years ago was voted by 27.000 citizens, a record for this category.
"Our dear ones, with great joy we tell you that we have won the big prize, the one that is the most valuable, because it expresses the trust and appreciation of people from all over Europe and especially you, the community of people on the road. More precisely, 27.000 of European citizens and from around the world voted Via Transilvanica as the best heritage project in the European Heritage Awards / Europa Nostra Awards 2023, the highest European distinction in the field. We broke the record for the number of votes, something that has never happened before, and this really means something. We thank you for each individual vote, we are so happy and grateful that too many words would be superfluous", the message from Tasuleasa states.
The event was organized by Europa Nostra, in collaboration with the European Commission.
The president of Tasuleasa Social, Alin Useriu, and the executive director of the association, Anna Szekely, were present in Venice to present the Via Transilvanica project and to collect the prizes.
Via Transilvanica is a 1.400-kilometer long hiking trail that starts from Putna and crosses Transylvania to the Danube Boilers, which can be covered on foot, by bike or on horseback.
