Vaccination of children between the ages of 12 and 15

Articol de Radiojurnal, 05 Mai 2021, 23:18

Romania is preparing to start, this summer, the vaccination of children between the ages of 12 and 15 with the Pfizer serum, now being approved in the European Union and the United States.

A decision by the European Medicines Agency is expected next month.

Two days ago, the European Medicines Regulatory Authority announced that it has begun the evaluation process to determine whether the anti-COVID-19 vaccine produced by Pfizer / BioNTech can also be administered to children between the ages of 12 and 15.

The process usually takes between four and six weeks, and the application for extension of the authorization was submitted on Friday by the two partner companies, based on a clinical study that shows a 100 percent effectiveness of the vaccine in this age group.

In the meantime, Canada has authorized the use of the vaccine for children between the ages of 12 and 15. It is the first country in the world to approve this.

A decision is expected in the coming days in the United States, where vaccination of teenagers could begin immediately, as assured by President Joe Biden himself.

The American press wrote that Pfizer will apply for an emergency authorization for the use of its vaccine against COVID-19 for children aged between 2 and 11, starting with September.
