USL Euro-Parlamentarians requests through an open letter to European Commission President José Manuel Barroso and Commissioner for Justice, Viviane Reding, an official position regarding the Prosecutor General investigation on voting in the referendum for dismissal of President Traian Băsescu.
Euro-Parliamentarians say that citizens are made to swear on the Bible, asked how they voted and are deprived of legal assistance.
"Letter to Mr. President Barroso and Commissioner Reding, sent on behalf of USL Euro-Parliamentarians, wants firstly to raise the alarm about what is happening in Romania in recent days, about prosecutors' investigations aimed the non-credibility outcome of the referendum and discourage vote in the next elections and also how the European Commission, in our choice, should express an opinion about the situation in Romania.
"And we believe that those from the European Commission, as they took position on other issues pertaining to the internal affairs of Romania, this time should alert the Prosecutor and representatives of DNA that they crossed the line," said Liberal Euro-Parliamentarian, Cristian Buşoi.
The two European officials are asked if they feel normal to be intimidated because Romanians expressed their right to vote.
PDL claims that "USL tries to split the population"
Prime vice-president PDL Cezar Preda said that USL tries to split the population, inducing the idea that all voters will be investigated.
He added that the alleged electoral fraud refers only to multiple voting and vote rigging.
"After they tried to illegally incite the government and the parliament on the Prosecutor General, now USL uses an alternative, it appeals to social violence to cover electoral frauds. It is nn unprecedented attack on independent institutions of the state, on the judiciary, on the institutions with largest international credibility, "said Cezar Preda.
