American Secretary of State Antony Blinken had a telephone conversation with the Romanian Foreign Minister, Luminita Odobescu, the two dignitaries announced in posts on Twitter.
They discussed the bilateral relations and the strategic partnership between the two countries, collective security, but also the support given to Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova.
A press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bucharest states that the two diplomats discussed the effects of the Russian Federation's decision to suspend participation in the Black Sea grain export initiative and condemned Russia's recent attacks on civilians and river and maritime infrastructure, as well as the cynical way in which the Russian Federation affects global food security.
The conversation between the two took place after Russia attacked two Ukrainian ports on the Danube, near the border with Romania.
The American television station CNN notes that the Russian attack on the Ukrainian port of Reni, located approximately 20 kilometers from Romania, would be the closest attack to NATO territory since the beginning of the war in Ukraine.
