The development of the US missile defence system in Romania is still on track, according to a statement issued by the US Embassy in Bucharest on Tuesday.
"The US is firmly commited to defending its territory, the American people and deployments of US troops and allies in Europe, including Romania, against any ballistic missile threat. Romania is a trusted US partner within NATO while its troops are engaged in the allied mission in Afghanistan", it says.
As Radio Romania reports, the statement comes amid allegations about an alleged Pentagon report pointing out serious defficiencies in the phased US missile defence system in Eastern Europe.
As Radio Romania reports, "Moscow believes the plan is a serious threat to Russia's strategic forces", Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov said in a statement in March 2012.
