The United States of America has approved the sale to Romania of missiles compatible with the F16 airplanes, to provide advanced AIM-120 AMRAAM capabilities for the Romanian Air Force.
The initial sale is valued at about 180 million dollars, with the option to purchase additional missiles, the US diplomatic mission in Bucharest said.
The sale contributes to the Romanian Air Force's modernization effort, as the missiles are also compatible with other NATO and US aircraft, including the F35.
The US Ambassador to Romania, Kathleen Kavalec, congratulated Romania on this important acquisition, which demonstrates the strong commitment of the Government of Bucharest to security, defense and stability in the country and in the region.
