President-elect of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has had interviews with the two candidates proposed by the Romanian Government to hold the position of European Commissioner - Siegfried Mureșan and Adina Vălean. A spokesman for the transition team said for Radio Romania that both candidates did well, but the elected President of the European Commission has decided that Adina Vălean is to take over the Transport portfolio.
Same source also states that Adina Vălean is an experienced Member of the European Parliament, who headed the Environmental Committee (ENVI) in the European Parliament, and is currently the Chairman of the Industry, Research and Energy committee (ITRE) in The House.
In addition, she has gained experience on topics related to the transport portfolio.
Now, Adina Vălean must first pass the test in the Legal Commission (JURI), which verifies the integrity of the nominees. There will then be hearings in the specialized committees on November 14th. It is hoped that the vote for the new European Commission will take place in the plenary of the EU Parliament by the end of this month, so that the European Commission will start its activity from December 1st.
