Unemployment rate higher in Romania’s euro regions
According to Eurostat, in Romania, the unemployment rate climbed to 7.4 percent last year compared with 7.3 per cent in 2010.

The unemployment rate in Romania’s euro regions rose to 7.4 per cent in 2011 compared to 7.3 per cent in 2010, according to the data presented Wednesday by the European Statistic Department (Eurostat) and cited by Agerpres.
Therefore, in the central and North Western regions, unemployment hit 7.9 per cent in 2011 compared to the 8.5 per cent in the previous year.
In the North and South-Eastern regions, the rate hit 7 per cent in 2011, a slightly smaller percentage compared to the previous year’s 7.1 per cent.
As regards the regions of Southern Muntenia and Bucharest-Ilfov, the rate rose to 8.2 per cent in 2011, compared to the previous year’s 6.8 per cent.
In Western and South Western Oltenia, unemployment hit 6.4 per cent in 2011, a smaller percentage compared to the previous year’s 6.9 per cent .
In the EU, the regional unemployment rate varied in 2011 from 2.5 per cent in Tirol and Zalzburg and 2.7 per cent in Zeeland to 30.4 per cent in Andaluzia.
Of all the 271 European regions with available data, 44 had an unemployment rate of over 4.8 per cent , half as small as the average rate in the EU, namely 9.6 per cent .
At the other extreme, 17 euro regions had rates of at least 19.2%, half the average rate of the 27 member states.
