U.S. Secretary of State Assistant visits Bucharest
Philip Gordon had meetings with Romanian officials on Monday – the suspended President, Traian Băsescu, the interim president Crin Antonescu and the Prime Minister Victor Ponta.

Philip Gordon, the U.S.A. Secretary of State Assistant, Hillary Clinton, makes on Monday a visit to Romania.
Having previously met with the suspended president, Traian Băsescu, and the interim president, Crin Antonescu, Philip Gordon had a meeting starting 17.00 o’clock with Prime Minister Victor Ponta.
The meeting between Prime Minister and Philip Gordon ended at around 18.00 o’clock.
U.S. official has made some statements after his meeting with Victor Ponta.
In a statement of the Romanian Government, published Monday, it is shown that the U.S. official was concerned about recent political developments in Romania and raised some concerns about the Constitutional Court of Romania to complete the referendum procedure.
In response, Prime Minister Victor Ponta outlined the government interest that institutions entitled to issue as soon as possible decisions on the outcome of the referendum, so the priority agenda of economic and social Romania can advance more quickly.
Regarding the implementation stage of strategic partnership objectives, both sides reaffirmed the importance of maintaining the set of priorities already agreed.
The release also says that Premier Executive Victor Ponta reaffirmed the government's clear commitment to this partnership as a base pillar of Romania's foreign policy, the release also says.
According to him, Philip Gordon came in Romania because of the U.S. Administration concern regarding political developments in our country.
He will meet on Monday evening also with a series of members of civil society and business community.
In Romania "is a given political situation"
The Secretary of State Assistant, Hillary Clinton, was received on Monday at Cotroceni by the interim president Crin Antonescu.
Interim President Antonescu said at the beginning of discussions with Philip Gordon, U.S. Undersecretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, that the meeting with the U.S. official was necessary to clarify several issues and stressed that Romania has a certain political situation.
In turn, Philip Gordon reminded the Romanian-US Strategic Partnership and said that the U.S. is concerned about the situation in Romania and do everything they can to support the rule of law and independence.

Previously, Philip Gordon was also at the campaign headquarters of Traian Băsescu to meet the suspended President.
Philip Gordon was accompanied by U.S. Ambassador in Bucharest, Mark Gitenstein.
Philip Gordon's visit to Bucharest was announced by the U.S. State Department.
Secretary of State Assistant, Hillary Clinton, Philip H. Gordon, came to Bucharest "to discuss U.S. concerns about recent government actions that threaten the democratic separation of powers and weakening the independence of state institutions," according to a statement.
