Two runners die in Piatra Craiului marathon
Two runners have died on Saturday in a marathon that took place in Romania’s Piatra Craiului mountains.

Two runners have died on Saturday in a marathon that took place in Romania’s Piatra Craiului mountains. The two - a 45-year-old woman from Harghita and a 39-year-old man from Cluj – fell 70 meters into a ravine, in the Dâmbovicioara area. They had started in the 14th marathon of Piatra Craiului, a race that takes place high on the crest of the mountain chain, with departure and arrival in Zărneşti, Braşov county.
Câmpulung Muscel police are conducting an investigation on the circumstances that led to this tragedy. First to arrive at the accident were the Argeş Mountain Rescuers.
Crest of the Piatra Craiului massif is known as an extremely dangerous one, over time it has produced numerous accidents.
Marathon was immediately stopped after the tragedy.
