Two more endowment programs for the Romanian Army

Romanian Minister of National Defense, Mihai Fifor, welcomes the unanimous joint parliamentary committee approval of another two endowment programs for the Romanian Army.

Ministry of Defense will now be able to start the procedures to award procurement contracts for the multi-functional wheeled transport platforms as well as for the IAR-99 Șoim (Hawk) aircraft upgrading in the IAR-99 Super Șoim configuration.

Program for the transformation, development and endowment of the Romanian Army until 2026 and beyond contributes directly to the increase of the Romanian Armed Forces operational capacity. Acquisition of transport platforms will be phased in. A number of 3,385 transport platforms are foreseen to be purchased in 2018-2027, for an estimated value of 737 million euros, excluding VAT.

As for the IAR-99 aircraft upgrading program, this requires an advanced training platform to be developed by reconfiguring IAR-99 aircraft avionics and flight control systems. New configuration of the IAR-99 Super Șoim platform will aim to increase the reliability of on-board facilities and systems, extend the life of aircraft, develop the skills and aptitudes required to successfully carry out the missions, ensure safe piloting of multi-purpose planes, and reduce the risks associated with component and technical training. This modernization program is done, too, with the involvement of the national defense industry, the aircraft being of Romanian conception and production.
