Two fighter aircraft of the Romanian Air Force were urgently lifted from the ground yesterday afternoon to intercept and escort a civilian plane.
The mission was decided by the NATO Air Operations Center after the civil air traffic authorities reported that there was information regarding a bomb alert on board the aircraft flying on the Poznan-Tel Aviv route. We have details from Brigadier General Constantin Spinu, head of the Army's Directorate of Information and Public Relations.
Constantin Spinu: The Romanian MIG-21 Lancer aircraft took off from Campia Turzii, at 16:28 local time and after interception they escorted the civil aircraft in accordance with the legislation and procedures in force, including on a portion of the Hungarian airspace, until it was taken over by Hungarian Air Force aircraft. The mission was ordered by the NATO Air Operations Center in Torrejon and was coordinated at national level by the Reporting and Control Center of the Air Command, in coordination with the civil air traffic authorities.
