The oil rig Transocean Barents has left the port of Constanta for the Neptun Deep perimeter, where it will soon start drilling for deep offshore gas fields.
As announced by OMV Petrom, the mobile drilling unit will sail about 160 kilometers offshore the Romanian waters of the Black Sea to reach its destination, where it will start drilling the ten wells that will exploit one of the most important gas deposits in the European Union.
Drilling will start this year and the first gas is expected in 2027 as part of the project, which is owned equally by Petrom and Romgaz.
Neptun Deep's reserves are estimated at 100 billion cubic meters, with Romania currently producing around 9-10 billion cubic meters a year.
