The mountain rescue bases in Vrancea county could be introduced into the tourist circuit, say local authorities, especially since two of them have not been used at all for the purpose for which they were built. Radio Romania News correspondent Gabriel Sava has more information.
Reporter: The Vrancea Mountain Rescue Service has so far used only one of the three bases it has. Managing them involves costs that Vrancea County Council President Nicusor Halici has decided to reduce.
Nicusor Halici: The Salvamont bases, which have also been modernized with European money and, with the exception of the one in Paulești, where only the ground floor was used to ensure permanence, and there we can maintain it without any problem, for the rest, where there are dormitories upstairs, we go with the idea of short-term rental and not per room, but per location. All the bases have running water, and sewage. Villa Rucar also has methane gas, Paulestiul and Nistorestiul are heated, have water pumps, electricity, so, they imply costs from the County Council budget, that is, from the pockets of the people of Vrancen. We are taking them out, integrating them into the tourist circuit and updating them.
Reporter: Salvamont Vrancea operates under the County Council, and the amount spent annually for operation is about 1.2 million lei.
