Timis: Outbreak of African swine fever at a company in Periam

An outbreak of African swine fever was confirmed on Friday in the county of Timis at a company in Periam.
Local authorities have set up protection and surveillance zones of up to 10 kilometers to prevent the spread of the disease, and as of Saturday almost 30.000 animals will be slaughtered, the director of the Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Directorate Timis said to RRA correspondent Alina Bujanca.
The African swine fever does not present a risk of disease in humans, but it causes great damage to pig farmers, because when the disease is confirmed, all the animals in the outbreak are slaughtered.
