16 migrants from Syria, Iran and Iraq, aged between 18 and 30, were found in an abandoned minibus on the A1 highway, near Timisoara.
The vehicle was noticed by the Highway Police, who alerted the border police.
The 16 people said they were picked up by the driver of the minibus, from a town in Timis County, who undertook to transport them to the border with Hungary.
By the time they would have arrived in Austria or Germany, the migrants would have had to pay between 1.500 and 5.000 euros.
They did not reach the border, because the minibus broke down on the highway and the driver abandoned it.
Now the authorities are conducting research to identify all those involved in this case, says our correspondent, Alina Bujanca.
