Three gendarmes from Oradea are suspected of using fictitious medical certificates to work as mercenaries in Congo. The decision was confirmed by the National Anticorruption Directorate and is part of a file on suspected corruption related to the fraudulent obtaining of these documents by employees of the Bihor Gendarmerie Inspectorate.
According to local media, the three gendarmes were allegedly in close relations with the inspectorate's management, which in the last two years approved them to accumulate sick leave under false pretexts for the period they were employed in Congo. The charges in the case relate to bribery, abuse of office, intellectual fraud and making false statements. Prosecutors carried out yesterday several searches at the homes of the three gendarmes and seized documents from the Bihor gendarmerie headquarters.
