The three suspects arrested in connection with the theft of the Romanian treasure from the Drents Museum remain in custody for two more weeks, the Public Prosecution Service has announced, as quoted by the Dutch press.
The three - two men and a woman - were caught with the help of information received from members of the public who have been urged to continue to cooperate with the authorities.
The Dutch public prosecutor's office emphasized that publishing the names and photos of an arrested suspect, as was done this time, was a 'drastic measure' rarely used in Dutch judicial practice.
The unusual step was prompted by the fact that the case is being pursued under international pressure, but also time pressure because the artifacts could be on their way to a foreign country or could be destroyed, the Dutch justice minister said.
He said he had discussed the matter with the Romanian authorities, who did not press for additional measures to be taken in the Netherlands.
The objects stolen last Saturday from the museum in Assen are still missing, but the rest of the exhibits were returned to Romania on friday.
