RADIO ROMANIA NEWS - The United States' commitment to Article 5 of the NATO Charter is unshakable.
"An attack on one member is an attack on the entire alliance. We will defend every inch of NATO territory" - is the message sent today in Bucharest by the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, who visited Romania.
She spoke at the Cotroceni Palace with President Klaus Iohannis about Russia's war in Ukraine and said diplomacy was still the best way to resolve the conflict.
In turn, the head of state thanked the United States for the security guarantees offered to our country.
Oana Bala reports: “President Klaus Iohannis stated that in this tense context, it is necessary to further increase the long-term US and allied military presence in Romania, as an additional measure to ensure regional security. The head of state also stressed that NATO will act without hesitation to defend every ally, including Romania, and assured that there is no data to indicate an aggression against our country.
Klaus Iohannis: “I can emphasize that we do not have data indicating that Romania could be targeted by an aggression. On the other hand, it is very clear that this action by Russia, this war against Ukraine has certainly produced a result, visible, firm, and clear, and that is the unity of NATO and the determination of NATO allies to stand together and to defend together.”
US Vice President Kamala Harris noted the generosity and courage shown by Romanians when they received Ukrainian refugees. She also said that the United States will defend every inch of NATO territory.
Kamala Harris: “I am in Romania today to reaffirm the commitment of the United States and to thank the President, the leadership and the Romanian people. The power of our alliance is now greater than ever. The power of the alliance includes our common commitment to abide by principles that also apply to the defense of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of independent countries, in this case Ukraine."
The Vice President of the United States and the President of Romania also discussed the support that should be given to the Republic of Moldova, given that the neighboring country is facing a very large number of refugees relative to the population."
