Prime Minister Emil Boc states that the Government issued a new ordinance by which paternal leave aid may be granted for a period of one year, with a maximum ceiling of 3400 lei, or for two years, with a maximum ceiling of 1200 lei, starting 2011.
Emil Boc announced that starting January 1st, mothers can decide the duration and the amount of the paternal leave.
The ordinance approved by the Executive on Wednesday stipulated two options for current mothers in paternal leave.
Two-year paternal leave aid, with a ceiling of 1200 lei
The ordinance adopted on Wednesday by the Government stipulated that mothers will be able to opt for two-year paternal leave, with a child-rearing aid between 600 lei and 1200 lei.
‘Mothers will be able to choose a two-year paternal leave, but in this case they will receive only up to 1200 lei’, said Prime Minister Emil Boc.
One-year paternal leave aid, with a ceiling of 3400 lei
In case of one year’s paternal leave, the child-rearing aid will be between 600 lei and 3400 lei.
If mothers choose to return to work in less than two years, they will benefit of a 500 lei bonus aid per month, in the remainder of the second year.
The Prime Minister stated that once the option is made, the duration of the paternal leave cannot be amended.
Mothers who are already on leave will not be affected by these changes.
The ordinance does not apply to any paternal leave in place
‘For those who are currently on leave, the duration and the amount of paternal leave will not be affected’, Prime Minister Boc said.
