Road traffic on the Transfagarasan at its highest point reopened today.
The road officials have done all the safety checks, but they have some advice for lovers of this mountain road linking Muntenia to Transylvania.
As it happens every year, a special team of the National Road Infrastructure Management Company went to the Transfagarasan to assess the situation of the mountain road and, following the inspection, members of this team decided to reopen the section of the highest part of the road, the one between Balea Lac (Sibiu county) and Piscul Negru (Arges county).
Traffic is allowed between 7:00 and 21:00, and the road officials also have some warnings. The first of them concerns weather changes at altitude, so in case of bad weather conditions the road will be temporarily closed until traffic can resume safely.
The second warning concerns encounters with bears, whose numbers have increased again this year.
The road authorities advise drivers and passengers not to feed the animals or make any gestures that might trigger aggressive reactions from them.
The Transalpina, Romania's highest road through the Southern Carpathians, reopened on 1 June.
