The Transfagarasan will enter an extensive modernization process next year.
The representatives of the Road Company claim that, if the works go according to plan, the traffic restriction will be removed throughout the cold season.
The spokesperson of the National Road Infrastructure Administration Company, Alin Serbanescu: We are considering setting up some spots with limited time, i.e. short stopping duration, for those who want to take pictures and admire the landscape on Transfagarasan. We also intend to install parapets on cable, because this type of parapet, when the Transfagrasan is closed, does not deteriorate so badly due to snow, and, on the other hand, it more effectively retains the possible stones that could fall from the slopes. At the same time, we are considering whether we can build certain canopies and where to put them.
Producer: The Transfagarasan connects Transylvania with Muntenia, crossing the Fagaras Mountains over a distance of over 90 kilometers, through Arges and Sibiu counties.
The road reaches its maximum altitude of over 2.000 meters at Balea Lac, being closed on a 27 kilometer stretch for eight months of the year, winter and spring, due to the weather.
