The weather report of the National Meteorology Administration (ANM) for the next ten days submitted on Thursday by the director of the institution, Ion Sandu, shows minimum temperatures permanently negative during the night and slightly positive, 3-4 degrees, on certain days, starting with 23rd, of February.
They will not, however, reach a critical value of 10 degrees, a situation which associated with the rainfall in the form of rain, would produce an accelerated melting of the snow that led to flooding.
There is a danger of flooding, admit the weather and hydrological specialists, but it is not imminent.
It is not the case, the experts ensure us, at least until the end of February.
Therefore, the stake is the gradual melting of snow quantities for the resulting water to be absorbed into the soil.
The hydrologists make sure and say that anyway there are large storage capacities in the reservoirs which are currently half empty.
They also highlight that the rivers debts are low odds and will remain in the next period.
Local authorities, an important role
The representatives of Ministry of the Environment say that they are prepared to handle any contingency.
There is a crisis cell at the level of Ministry that works permanently.
In turn, the general director of the National Administration of Romanian Waters, Ovidiu Gabor, said that measurements are made daily for determining the level of water.
He also presented the management mechanism of any critical situations.
“We have stocks of water resource, around 1.9 billion cubic meters, therefore, there is no question to ensure water resource for the population. We have inventory in order to ensure the resource for national energy system. We are the institution that through the Institute give alerts, the alerts go to county committees for emergency situation and to local committees, each with plans for defense”.
“We have written in these plans that if the share attention is reached, or share flood, or hazard rate, what areas are affected and who should intervene, how many houses, how many industrial targets, how many roads, what portion of the railroad and so on.”, declared Ovidiu Gabor.
On Thursday, it was also outlined the extremely important role of local authorities for the management of possible flooding.
The Minister László Borbély was saying, the other day, that the efforts must be directed at local level to create the conditions for rapid drainage on the ground of the water resulting from snow melting by releasing and cleaning the water tables, the gutters, channels, temporary riverbeds, of any kind, streams and water courses of local interest, so as to avoid producing flush floods within a radius of the localities where are present large amounts of snow.
