RADIO ROMANIA NEWS - The Senate adopted, in the form of the Government, the emergency ordinance that provides for the granting of educational vouchers per year for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
PSD Senator Ionel Cristescu, about the arguments in favor of this measure: "We are talking about the fact that more than 400.000 preschoolers and schoolchildren in Romania will benefit over a period of four years from social vouchers worth 500 lei and I think that we must give an extra chance to these children. I also want to mention the fact that on the basis of these social vouchers you can purchase supplies and clothes, and nothing else."
The opposition believes that the measure is not enough to solve the problems faced by children from disadvantaged backgrounds and, in addition, notes that for the moment it is an unfulfilled promise.
USR Senator Irineu Darau: "Obviously we agree with financial support for students, disadvantaged children, but the Government, after years of governance, treats the need for integrated services superficially, which we have been talking about. These vouchers are not enough to lift children out of poverty. The vouchers have not reached the children, although school has started for a month, so for now it is an unfulfilled promise."
The document will be sent to the Chamber of Deputies, the decision-making body in this case, editor Alexandra Cristea transmitted./RADOR RADIO ROMANIA/
