The Plenum of the Superior Council of Magistracy voted, with 11 votes "for", the project of the Ministry of Justice regarding the abolition of the Section for the Investigation of Crimes in Justice.
After four hours of contradictory debates, with more or less respect, with or without academic arguments, the representatives of judges and prosecutors voted for the abolition of the Section for the Investigation of Crimes in Justice, with 11 votes "for" and 8 "against".
Council magistrates also called the plan to dismantle the special ward "a dead patient who has a hand raised to look alive", "Terminator 2", "metamorphosis" and "target of the political world".
Although the opinions of judges and prosecutors were extremely diverse and reconcilable, the SCM plenum voted for the abolition of the ICIJ.
A year ago, when Stelian Ion was Minister of Justice, the SCM rejected the abolition of the special section, the same SCM which, four years ago, negatively approved the establishment of the special section.
According to the project, the powers of the ICIJ will be taken over by a structure inspired by the model of the European Public Prosecutor's Office, with 12 prosecutors at the center and 30 in the territory, two for each court of appeal.
