The Schengen file could be put on the agenda of the ministers of justice and internal affairs at the end of September, when the first Justice and Home Affairs Council meeting is scheduled under the Presidency of Spain at the Council of the European Union, the Minister of the Interior Lucian Bode announced today.
Until the end of June, under the presidency of Sweden, the case of the accession of Romania and Bulgaria to the free movement area has no chance to be on the agenda of the Council of Justice and Internal Affairs, but Romania's hopes of accession to Schengen are from autumn, according to Spain's promises, who supports the cause, Minister Lucian Bode explained:
Lucian Bode: Spain stated, through the Minister of the Interior Marlaska, both in Bucharest and in Vienna, a few days ago, that it will put on the agenda of the presidency the file of the accession of Romania and Bulgaria to the Schengen Area. So, having no signal from Sweden of intention to put on the agenda of the Justice and Home Affairs Council in June, our hope lies in the Spanish presidency. The Council will be on the 28th at the end of June. The Spanish presidency will decide according to the discussions and the conclusions it will reach in the approach it has with Austria, if this will happen in September or in October, November, December.
