RADIO ROMANIA NEWS (October 11, 16:02) - "Radiojournal" - Producer: Cristina Grecu - Reporter: Amalia Bojescu.
Producer: The Russian drones that fell last month on the territory of the Danube Delta were hit by the Ukrainian anti-aircraft defense and did not target the territory of Romania, stated the Minister of Defense Angel Tilvar. He was called to give explanations on this topic in Parliament, at Government time, by the group of USR senators.
Reporter: USR senators wanted to find out from the defense minister why fragments of Russian drones fell on Romanian territory and how the authorities managed this situation. Senator Raul Trifan declared that, in the context of the war in Ukraine, it is inadmissible for the authorities not to know what is happening on Romania's borders.
Raul Trifan: Is there or not at this moment a way for the borders to be monitored around the clock? Is there someone from the Government or the army who can assure both us and the external partners that drones with different loads do not enter or leave Romania? Have Ghepard or other drone defense systems been deployed in the area? Romanians, as well as Romania's international partners, expect speed and maturity from us.
Reporter: In response, Defense Minister Angel Tilvar said that Romania's territory was not targeted, and the data obtained show that the drones were hit by Ukraine's anti-aircraft defense in the attacks on Ismail port.
Angel Tilvar: The uncontrolled actions of these drones, whose fragments were discovered on national territory, could not be observed by the surveillance and early warning systems, for objective reasons related to their evolution at low and very low heights, of the surfaces of low reflection, as well as due to the shielding generated by the terrain and the port infrastructure of Ukraine.
Reporter: Minister Angel Tilvar specified that the drones did not contain active combat elements, i.e. explosives, and assured that Romania, as a NATO member country, is protected and its citizens are not in danger. (II)
