200 Romanian soldiers will take part in a NATO operation to evacuate Afghan citizens who worked for the Alliance's missions in Afghanistan, the Supreme Council of National Defense decided yesterday.
The operation will consist of extracting Afghan citizens from temporary bases in Kuwait and Qatar and relocating them to permanent bases in the territory of the allied states.
Additional measures have been set out in the Supreme Council of National Defense, should Europe face a wave of migrants after the Taliban takes power in Afghanistan.
Also, collaboration with neighboring states, which could be targeted, alongside Romania, by potential migration waves from Afghanistan, will be intensified.
According to a statement from the Presidential Administration, for Romania, the regime change in Afghanistan may have security consequences, due to the dangers posed by extremism, terrorism, drug and arms trafficking or illegal migration.
