"The Romanian medical system could face a blockage"
29 Septembrie 2021, 06:58
Romania registered on Tuesday, September 28, the highest number of new cases of coronavirus infection since the beginning of the epidemic and until now. There were over 11.000 new infections reported, resulting from a record number of tests - over 73.000. Bucharest registered almost 2.000 cases, in Timis there were over 560, while Iasi and Cluj each had almost 400.
The number of deaths is also increasing rapidly - over 200, but also of patients with COVID-19. There are currently over 11.400 people in hospitals, double that of two weeks ago, and in Intensive Care Units there were 1.267 patients hospitalized and only 26 beds available on Tuesday. The Romanian medical system could face a blockage, if the current evolution is maintained, mentioned the coordinator of the National Vaccination Campaign, Valeriu Gheorghita.
"The Delta variant, which is dominant today, is spreading so easily that almost for all people who have no degree of immunity, no degree of protection, have not been infection or are not vaccinated, who live in urban areas, where the population density is increased, the risk of infection in the next period is very high, and right now we have hundreds of thousands of people who have no protection and it is important for us that these people do not get infected in a short period of time, because this would obviously block the medical system. However, this is the reality, the risk of spreading is extremely high, the increase is exponential, given that we are neglecting the protection measures", said Valeriu Gheorghita.
