The Republic of Moldova has been and will continue to be supported by Romania to deal with the consequences of Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine - this was the message given in Chisinau by the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis.
The lightning visit made by the Romanian head of state to the capital of the Republic of Moldova was intended to be a new signal of Bucharest's support for this country, in which Ukrainian refugees now represent 5% of the population.
"Romania and the Republic of Moldova, as neighbors of Ukraine, must take all necessary measures to deal with the effects of war as effectively as possible. That is why I came today to Chisinau, together with Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca, with a strong message: Romania is with the Republic of Moldova and all its citizens, as it always has been. You can count on us", said Klaus Iohannis.
President Maia Sandu thanked Romania for the tens of tons of food and fuel sent from Bucharest, but also for the entire support provided by Romania over time. The President of the Republic of Moldova once again condemned the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, recalling that for a low-income country such as the Republic of Moldova, the effort to help refugees is significant and that the solidarity of the whole of Europe is needed.
"I am convinced that the close partnership between our countries will help us to overcome the difficulties and uncertainties caused by the war in Ukraine. We live in difficult times, in which solidarity, care, mutual help must prevail. Only in this way can we overcome the tragedy and destruction of war; this is how we can claim our humanity ", said Maia Sandu.
100.000 Ukrainian refugees out of the 340.000 who have so far crossed the border into the Republic of Moldova have remained in the country.
Almost 450.000 Ukrainians have arrived in Romania since the beginning of the invasion, and 80.000 of them have chosen to stay on its territory.
