RADIO ROMANIA NEWS - From the Netherlands, Romania will have two multi-role ships for rescue and extinguishing fires at sea, bought from the Damen company.
The contract signed on Tuesday by the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations is for approximately 40 million euros from European funds and stipulates that the design and construction of the ships will be done at the Dutch company's shipyard in Galati.
The Minister of the Interior, Lucian Bode, stated that the acquisition of the two ships will allow a more effective intervention and better coordination with other structures.
Lucian Bode: "The state-of-the-art equipment of the two ships that will serve the structures of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations will allow the intervention of rescuers at sea in extreme conditions. The acquisition of these ships is a first for our structures and I am convinced that they will contribute to increasing the efficiency of the missions to which we will be called to respond. Another benefit of these new vessels is represented by the fact that both can provide conditions necessary to coordinate joint operations with other structures."
For his part, the head of the Department for Emergency Situations, Raed Arafat, emphasized that each ship can ensure the rescue and retrieval of a maximum of 50 people and has medical equipment including for critical patients.
