Ministry of Justice, Titus Corlăţean, dismissed Wednesday the General Director of the National Administration of Penitentiaries, Ion Băla, after he said the Romanian authorities were able to de-structure the criminal organization that planned to act in order to release the mafia detained.
The respective groups had even cars marked with police signs and people dressed in police uniforms, said the head of Prisons.
Titus Corlăţean said in a press release that the statements made by Ion Băla are totally groundless and assures that the phenomenon of organized crime did not aggravate in recent years.
Moreover, this phenomenon is controlled by professional institutions with relevant expertise and there is no risk that it will be strengthened.
The Minister of Justice uncloaks such statements, which may raise questions about the capacities of the state to manage the crime phenomenon and can seriously undermine Romania's image abroad.
Ion Băla said Wednesday at Vaslui that workers within the system must always be prepared to deal with organized crime, because the potential danger exists at every step.
He argued the need to implement a video-inquisition system within courts, for imprisoned people not to leave the hearings system of detention.
