RADIO ROMANIA NEWS: We are preparing for defense missions - said President Klaus Iohannis, who participated on Tuesday with his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda in the multinational military exercise "Justice Sword 21".
The exercise takes place in Smardan commune, from Galati county, and the head of state said he was impressed by the way the training took place.
Reporter: Oana Bala - The armed forces from Romania and Poland are preparing for defense on the eastern flank, said President Klaus Iohannis and mentioned that through exercises such as "Justice Sword 21" the soldiers from the two countries learn how to connect with each other in order to perform combat missions together.
Klaus Iohannis: It is extremely important that such exercises take place in order to check and increase the degree of interoperability, ie to work well together, to know each other, to learn how to connect with each other and to be able to perform combat missions together. When we talk about combat missions, I have to be very clear here: we are preparing for defensive combat missions. It is, for us, on the eastern flank of NATO, extremely important to have well-trained forces, well prepared for defense.
The President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, said that such an exercise offers the opportunity to see the military equipment available to the two armies and found that the Romanian and Polish military are becoming increasingly compatible with NATO allies. He hoped that such exercises would be held in Poland as well.
