The President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, appreciated on Friday in Timisoara, on the last day of his state visit, that Romania and Germany must further strengthen their collaboration at political, cultural, economic and military levels.
He reaffirmed that Romania must enter the Schengen free movement area as soon as possible.
"We talked about this on the first day in Bucharest, in the official discussion. Not only I, but also the entire leadership of the Federal Republic of Germany are of the same opinion, that Romania's entry into Schengen must happen as soon as possible", declared the president Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
On Friday, May 26, President Steinmeier visited the historic center of the city, a fine art exhibition opened as part of the European Capital of Culture program, the German High School and the Great Synagogue. He also attended a breakfast hosted by Mayor Dominic Fritz.
"I can say that the reaction is one of amazement and enthusiasm that really the preconceived ideas about Romania, about Banat, are completely different from the reality we live here. So, Timisoara is an inspiration and I think it managed to also inspire Mr. President," said Mayor Dominic Fritz.
This year, Timisoara is the European Capital of Culture, along with the cities of Elefsina in Greece and Veszprem in Hungary.
