The Constitutional Court has rejected PNL’s challenge to the Pension Law, this way confirming that the normative act is in accordance with the constitutional stipulations.
The challenge, formulated by 55 liberal members of the Parliament, was lodged with the Constitutional Court on December 8th.
"In this moment, the law, from our point of view, is obviously unconstitutional, because this law provides that women will have smaller pensions than men will", PNL deputy Eugen Nicolaescu declared.
The Pension Law, which sets the retirement age at 63 years for women and 65 years for men, was approved by the Plenary of the Chamber of Deputies on December 7th, after Traian Băsescu had requested it to be reviewed. The Law was adopted by roll call vote, with a majority of 172 votes.
