The Madrid summit begins, where, according to the Minister of National Defense, Vasile Dincu, fundamental decisions are expected for the profile and position of the North Atlantic Alliance at regional and global level, for the important tasks of NATO and allies, but also for the strategic directions of the next decade.
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg announced that the defense of the alliance's eastern borders would be strengthened by supplementing the rapid reaction troops, from 40.000 to more than 300.000 troops. President Klaus Iohannis is also attending the NATO summit.
The head of state will emphasize in the discussions the importance of strengthening the long-term position of the Allied defense on the eastern flank. He will also mention the contribution of Romania to supporting Ukraine on humanitarian level and in reducing the risks related to food security.
At the same time, officials will also mention the support provided by Romania to the most vulnerable partners, especially the Republic of Moldova and Georgia. On the other hand, it will reiterate Romania's strong support for NATO's open door policy, including the accession of Finland and Sweden.
